The Economics Of Information Security And Privacy

by Rainer Böhme, The Economics Of Information Security And Privacy Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Economics Of Information Security And Privacy books, In the late 1990s, researchers began to grasp that the roots of many information security failures can be better explained with the language of economics than by pointing to instances of technical flaws. This led to a thriving new interdisciplinary research field combining economic and engineering insights, measurement approaches and methodologies to ask fundamental questions concerning the viability of a free and open information society. While economics and information security comprise the nucleus of an academic movement that quickly drew the attention of thinktanks, industry, and governments, the field has expanded to surrounding areas such as management of information security, privacy, and, more recently, cybercrime, all studied from an interdisciplinary angle by combining methods from microeconomics, econometrics, qualitative social sciences, behavioral sciences, and experimental economics. This book is structured in four parts, reflecting the main areas: management of information security, economics of information security, economics of privacy, and economics of cybercrime. Each individual contribution documents, discusses, and advances the state of the art concerning its specific research questions. It will be of value to academics and practitioners in the related fields.

Information Economics

by Urs Birchler, Information Economics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Information Economics books, This new text book by Urs Birchler and Monika Butler is an introduction to the study of how information affects economic relations. The authors provide a narrative treatment of the more formal concepts of Information Economics, using easy to understand and lively illustrations from film and literature and nutshell examples. The book first covers the economics of information in a 'man versus nature' context, explaining basic concepts like rational updating or the value of information. Then in a 'man versus man' setting, Birchler and Butler describe strategic issues in the use of information: the make-buy-or-copy decision, the working and failure of markets and the important role of outguessing each other in a macroeconomic context. It closes with a 'man versus himself' perspective, focusing on information management within the individual. This book also comes with a supporting website (www.alicebob.info), maintained by the authors.

The Economics Of Information Networks

by Cristiano Antonelli, The Economics Of Information Networks Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Economics Of Information Networks books, Provided in this book is a penetrating analysis of the broad array of the changes that generation, introduction and diffusion of a wave of radical innovations such as new information technologies and advanced telecommunications produce on industrial structures, corporate organization and firms behavior. The major contribution of the book lies in highlighting the role of factors such as technological, pecuniary, adoption, demand and network factors as a general conceptual framework for analysing technological change. Building on this theoretical framework, the book shows how cooperation among firms emerges as the distinctive feature of the new models of industrial organization. Interdependence between firms in fact is more and more shaped by networks of complementarities, localized spillovers and learning opportunities. In the conclusion the policy implications for assessing the evolution of network technologies with special reference to advanced telecommunications are consequently analyzed and developed.

The Economics Of Information Technology Explaining The Productivity Paradox

by Geoffrey M. Brooke, The Economics Of Information Technology Explaining The Productivity Paradox Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Economics Of Information Technology Explaining The Productivity Paradox books, Excerpt from The Economics of Information Technology Explaining the Productivity Paradox The past forty years have seen dramatic advances in the technology of information processing, and its widespread adoption bears testimony to the advent of the 'information society'. However, the economic implications of this transition remain to some degree obscure, since there is little evidence that the new technology has led to clear improvements in productive efficiency. Indeed, during the past twenty years the United States' economy has suffered from a declining rate of productivity growth, despite sharply accelerating investment in computer-based systems. Several attempts have been made to resolve this 'productivity paradox', yet none has proved entirely satisfactory. In this work, we propose a new explanation of the paradox, and present economic evidence in its support. The central argument is that information technology has altered the economies of production in favor of differentiated output, and that our methods of productivity measurement tend to discount the benefits of greater product variety. The validity of this reasoning is demonstrated by an empirical study of the United States' private economy, covering the forty-year period from 1950 to 1989. Despite these results, however, we conclude that declining productivity growth is not merely an accounting fiction, since our current economic system is relatively ill-suited to differentiated production. An Introduction To The Economics Of Information

by Inés Macho-Stadler, An Introduction To The Economics Of Information Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download An Introduction To The Economics Of Information books, A textbook on optimal contract theory, An Introduction to the Economics of Information covers the consequences for the character and efficiency of the interaction between individuals or organizations when one party has more or better information on some aspect of the relationship. This is thecondition of asymmetric information, under which the information gap will be exploited if, by doing so, the better-informed party can achieve some advantage. The book is written for a one semester course for advanced undergraduates taking specialized course options, and for first year postgraduatestudents of economics or business. After an introduction to the subject and the presentation of a benchmark model in which both parties share the same information throughout the relationship, chapters are devoted to the three main asymmetric information topics: Moral Hazard--when the asymmetryarises after the contract has been signed Adverse Selection--when the agent has relevant private infromation before the contract is signed Signalling--when the informed part is able to reveal private information through behaviour before the agreement is formalized The wide range of economicsituations where the conclusions are applied includes such areas as finance, regulation, insurance, labor economics, health economics, and even politics. Each chapter presents the basic theory before moving on to applications and advanced topics. The problems are presented in the same frameworkthroughout to allow easy comparison of the different results. Solved exercises test the student's understanding of the material, and develop the tools and skills provided by the main text to solve other, original problems.
