Dark secrets and forbidden love threaten the very survival of the Shadowhunters in Cassandra Clare’s Queen of Air and Darkness, the final novel in the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling The Dark Artifices trilogy. Queen of Air and Darkness is a Shadowhunters novel.

What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

  • Way too political

This was way too political and had way too many characters being focused on. I doubt this series was meant to be written in this direction but because of the political climate our country is in I guess she wanted to focus on that. It was super disappointing since like to read to escape the world we live in and relax. This book was so far the political toilet that certain scenes made me laugh at how horribly written and absolutely ridiculous they were all being. So many pointless plots randomly added in as well. It was confusing and hard to understand what this book was even about. The whole parabatai curse was so anti climatic and silly. Come on this was supposed to be a curse.. The amount of different relationships/characters in those relationships going on was super confusing and seemed to be thrown in “just cause” rather than to enhance the story. I enjoy her adding in the different types of relationships in her books but this was WAY too much. Space all those relationships out in different books.. Focus on those other characters in their own series. This book should have been more focused on just a few characters more deeply. I’m usually a fast reader and enjoy CC’s writing but this book not only took me ages to get through it also made me less eager to ever read another CC book. Hope you get back to actually writing about shadowhunters and their world CC.

The Shadowhunter universe has always been incredibly exciting, and Queen of Air and Darkness stays true to that excitement. It was a great read, and I'm glad Clare gives readers some closure. However, if you were expecting this ebook to contain the bonus illustrations and A Long Conversation, Part 2, you are purchasing the wrong copy. I was disappointed to find out that the illustrations and short story were not included when they are mentioned in the descriptions. It's really misleading.

The book is great overall, but the title character played an abysmally small role which is a missed opportunity in my eyes.

This felt more like a remake to City of Heavenly Fire in my opinion, however it finally opens the big “What if” questions towards The Mortal Instruments series. But I will tell you that this finale is one hell of a tear jerker. It answered every questions that have been harboring my mind and raised the stakes that I thought I would never climb over. Cassandra Clare has yet again blossomed my heart towards her world of Shadowhunters. I’m sad this is probably the last of what I’ll read of Emma, Julian, and the rest of the Blackthorn families and all of their friends and allies, but I know Cassandra is going to write more books, so this might not be the end, possibly a soft “See you soon!”
